"BIG BOYS"
Period:From 13th August to 31th August 2011
Opening time:12:00~20:00
Opening reception
:13th August Saturday 17:00
Raphael Vella is an artist from the Mediterranean island of Malta, who lectures in Art at the University of Malta and has shown his work in many countries around the world, including England, France, Belgium, Holland, Romania, New Zealand, and Argentina. His artistic work consists mainly of drawings and sculpture, and he is also a prolific writer on art in his country. Big Boys is a series of drawings that Raphael Vella produced in 2011. Using different media, Vella reproduces old photos of well-known men that show them as infants or teenagers and are hence unrecognisable in most cases. Religious leaders, dictators, famous politicians and terrorists sit side by side, flanked by quotations from speeches they gave. Who said these words? Whose eyes are those? In this exhibition, the public is invited to try to guess the boys’ identities.

and exhibition is called I Fought the X and the X Won and is inspired by a rock and roll song called "I Fought the Law" with many cover versions, notably one by the band Bobby Fuller Four in the 1960's and another by The Clash. The show proposes different situations in which one is faced by antagonistic forces and defeat or failure, and the work is extremely varied, with media ranging from video to drawing, painting and sculpture. more information>>
